Love's Labor: Is it worth feeling sick or should they just get lost?

As much as enjoy  Shakespeare and Breakfast at Tiffany's, and have often wished to see John Cusack below my window blaring Peter Gabriel...I must confess- I'm a realist, not a romantic. 

Which  is why I can't seem to understand what seems to be in the air this rainy November.

Unlike some single gals, I like to create my own reality and happiness and I would get a little restless in an ivory tower waiting for my prince to come. I much prefer to stumble upon him... 

(I would LITERALLY stumble), making me, at times, almost impervious to the occasional love bug. My romantic perspective is probably symptomatic of  having a mother who read True Romance magazines and CHOSE to have her twins on Valentines Day.

Maybe Mom can explain why romantic hay fever has spread and is turning NYC's strongest singles into glassy eyed, sniffling, dosed, head cases. 

It just may the upcoming holiday season, maybe it's the cold, rainy weather, hell maybe it's because the sun is in passionate Scorpio. I don't know, but everyone just seems to be either falling in love or mourning a love lost, and it's making everyone sick!

One of my friend's just became "official" with a Scorpio- 

the glazed look in her eyes is quite lovely, concerning, but lovely.

Another friend  thinks she is in love with not one,but TWO gentlemen, bless her, she likes to multitask. 

Meanwhile, my coworker is in permanent sulk mode because his ex loves him but is not "in love with him". However, he can still be found making furniture for her and giving her money. Poor masochist.

And two nights ago, at the restaurant, there was this couple that was passionately arguing to the point of tears... in public!

Something is definitely in the air....they should make a vaccine for this. 

Even though I'm a realist, I find myself becoming very sensitive to all this activity, EVEN to the weird hipster girl that was crying on the train while knitting. It was probably over boy, it always is.

Anyway, much like flu season, everyone needs to GET OVER IT and either love 'em or lose 'em ya know?

Stop compromising and  stop crying because there ain't no Tylenol Flu for this little spell.

Wait.. that was a little harsh.. especially coming from the girl who now checks her phone every five minutes expecting...ahem.. a certain someone to call.  

I think I may be experiencing a few sniffles my self.... ERRRR...

WANTED: BEAUTIFUL NEW YORK FALL DAYS. Where'd ya go?

Dear Mother Nature,

    Howdy. The name's Jenn, you may not know me, I rarely ever complain about your decisions, whims, seasons, or antics. I can appreciate a rainy day as much as sunny one... an icy morning as much as a steamy night- there is a need for all of them. Being raised in the swamp that is South Florida, I'm used to your torrential afternoon showers, unbearable heat waves, nearly fatal hurricanes, extreme humidity and just about anything else that is symptomatic of mercurial moods. It makes sense that you are women, trust me I get it, and I find your shananigans  hilarious- even when it's sunny, beautiful and 60 degrees for eight days and on my only day off you feel like making it 50 and rainy...in SEPTEMBER, it's okay I understand. I'm sure that maintaining the homeostasis for the entire planet is a hefty task, and you have every right to be stressed.

  However... this past week... has been gray and well.....GRAY! I haven't seen the sun since Monday. I mean gimmme a break, and it's not even cold out either. It's that humid in-between weather; with a high of 65 and low of 55. Leaving me still needing to bring my jacket along when I leave for the day, even though I can't  actually wear it before nightfall because I will sweat through it. 

Additionally, today was my day off, I wanted to go to Central Park with my friend Haley, sport my freshly cut bob, and wear my fav red pumps ( yes to the park, I AM that girl) and be merry. Instead YOU, made it rain all day! Leaving my cute hair cut frizzed out and looking like my 6th grade yearbook photo, no park and no pumps. THANKS.

Moreover, I would deeply appreciate it if you do something about this transitional weather... because it's messing with my crystals and my plans.

Peanut butter and JELLY time!

My sincere apologies....

last Friday's blog may have falsely depicted a lifestyle that I'm currently not leading.

Even though this past weekend I could also be seen seamlessly weaving in and out of various social circles... it was all cost effective, I promise you. I can't be affected by the cost of anything these days because I HAVE NO MONEY. Feel me?

I'm just apparently really good at making it all seem so GLAMOROUS!

So allow me to share the GLAM recipes that your resident starving artist has concocted in a pinch.

Mexi-CAN Get a Job Eggs

2 poached egg

3 tsp of salsa

handful of any crackers.

Lay eggs on bed of crackers and drizzle salsa...easy!

Fallin' behind (on the bills) French Toast

 

 2 slices of bread. Any kind you can afford. Toasted.

 2 eggs

 1 apple

 1 tablespoon of Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate Powder

 1 tablespoon of cinnamon

 1 1/2 tablespoon of honey

  a dash of vanilla extract

 2 teaspoons of maple syrup

Prepare the French Toast as  you were taught... ( I'm not Rachel Ray... I'm not teaching you how to do it BTW)

Cut a medium size apple into small wedges

Place in bowl, add honey, cinnamon, and vanilla extract

Pop in the microwave for two minutes.

Meanwhile, Plate your toast, drizzle your maple syrup and evenly sprinkle the chocolate powder. 

Then top with the apples once they are ready.

Jelly- is-BROKE Sandwiches

2 slices of bread. Any kind you can afford. Toasted. 

1 tablespoon of Peanut Butter

1 tsp. of Sunflower Seed butter ( for an extra kick of creaminess and a multi- faceted "nuttiness")

2 tsp. of any jelly or preserve you can afford.

1 tsp. of Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate Powder.

Spread both butters on one slice

Spread jelly on the other

Sprinkle Swiss Miss on both faces

Sandwich together and....

YEY! yumminess!

TOO-POOR For Albacore Tuna Sandwich!

2 slices of bread. Any kind you can afford. Toasted

1 can of chunk light tuna 

(you can use solid white albacore, but if you can afford it, then you're too rich to eat this sandwich.)

1 1/2 tablespoon of Bothouse Farms Yogurt Ranch dressing (Half the fat of regular Ranch and more flavorful in my opinion.)

Dash of Sea Salt

Dash of fresh cracked pepper.

1 garlic clove ( pressed)

1/2 tsp. of dijon mustard.

Mix all in a bowl, then make a sandwich.

As you can see these are all easy and can be made with things you have around the kitchen.

Hope you are amused, and now hungry...

I have to run- I think I'm going to try to sell my recipes to NYU kids and the wives of Wall Street brokers.

Circumstantial Vacationing in the City.

I may have mixed things up.

Woops! ;)

SoOOOOooo, when I last left you I was supposed to be resting up and getting better so I can continue scouring the City for the perfect restaurant/bar job that can accomodate my budding acting career. HOWEVER....I  was bed ridden for the next two days... 

then the weekend came...

and even though I was progressively losing my voice...I felt a lot better so of course I thought I was FINE

'pssssshhhaw I am better!' I said. Of course my "recovery" couldn't have better timing. My friend LaurEN's brother was in town and it was also my friend LauRA's birthday weekend. ( I know it confuses you, my friend's names should be more phonetically varied; it confuses everyone).

Anyway....fantastic times were had. Pretending to be a tourist in Central Park with a tourist, going into FAO Shwartz and discovering they REALLY do have every toy known to man. Eating Cuban food! Spending the entire weekend at Laur's chic address in the heart of the city and enjoying the view, bar hoppin',almost beating up a touchy-feely Staten Island loser,seeing old classmates, $5 all you can drink Margaritas in the West Village and all activities were free or discounted (perks of having fellow actor friends in the hospiatlity/ service industry). YEY!

Fast forward to not being able to make a PEEP on Monday morning.

Leaving me not audible for my date that same night.

Oh me...

However the date went well...as well as the rest of what was a pretty social and productive week. Still looking for that job!

:::Sigh::: its getting exhausting to be so freaking charming at interviews. Oh but such is life...at least I had a relaxing vacation in my city! =) Wish me luck with my search and enjoy the pictures. Keep ya'll posted!

No job and donut cravings: New York living at it's best.

Alright so it's been about I week since I started this thing and a bit has happened.

I was waiting to write a special apple picking  blog and pictures to match... but alas I'm beginning to realize that "la gracia" ( 'the charm' for you non- Spanish speakers) of this quirky little blog habit is to have up to the minute info on my current events. So here's the riveting stuff  that has happened this week in chronological order.

Last day working at Hyatt as their on-site transportation rep. It was like the last day of school before summer vacation. Several shenanigans were had, including: flirting with the doormen, gossiping with the concierge and checking my Myspace account seven times in the business center. 

After work Greens and I went to Rosa Mexicana and celebrated my grand, much needed departure. Sangria, fresh guac and regaling tales of  our lost loves were exactly what I needed after working nine days straight.

Sleeping in till 11:30. Loved it. Check Craigslist and began my job hunting.

Went to a couple places and interviewed at one, walk around Soho and tried on some $585 Coach boots. Relax, freshly unemployed me had no intentions on making a purchase, especially since they didn't fit. I just do this sometimes to feel like I'm still on top, ya know? After all, it doesn't cost a dime to look. I later went to Spanish Harlem to visit a friend and ate Kentucky Fried Chicken for the first time in 3 years. That brought me down to reality, and made my tummy hurt. =(

APPLE PICKING with Mike, Ted and Greens in Jersey. Which is incidentally not so dirty and has many lovely apple orchards. After arriving back in our city, I made an apple crisp,  which  was the second time I have ever baked anything from scratch in my life. It was DELICIOUS.

Happy Birthday Bianca!

After having a very long day, too chaotic to consider mentioning, the reality of my current situation came crashing down. I am a broke, unemployed, actress in New York City, who misses her family. This was a lot to process. So I took a nice long walk, 30 blocks to be exact, called my friend Dana, vented,  and while on the phone entered Dunkin Donuts in search of some sugary happiness. I wasn't sure what I was  craving, I don't even really like donuts. I guess I was just trying to revert back to my childhood or something. I remember my grandparents used to buy us donuts and bring it to our house after school, oh how I long for the days when there was an 'after school' in my life . Anyway, I go in and here's the conversation with DD counter staff:

* BTW one of them is Asian but wearing a name tag that bears AFRO Z. Swear.  Oh and I'm still on the phone at this point:

ME: HHHEEEEY  as I frantically look at the empty donut cubbies

         Do  you have sugar powdered?

AFRO Z. : NO. (very abruptly)

Me: How about chocolate? ooooOOh How bout munchkins? Come on it's been a really long day, throw me a goddamn bone! ( Meanwhile Dana is on the phone laughing, at my attempting to eat my emotions)

AFRO Z. : Sorry lady , they all gone, everyone ate dem all. 

ME: You guys are open 24 hours, what you only make donuts for the first 12 hours you're open? 

(I barked) Alrite... ( I'm now leaning over the counter, looking like my dog just died or something) Well is the Strawberry filled one really filled  with, like, gross strawberry shit? 

      Dana: Did you seriously just ask that?

AFRO Z. : Yes, ma'm the strawberry filled donut is FILLED with strawberry filling.

       Fast forward to me standing on the corner of 14th and 2nd  at 10 pm  using a pay phone as a counter while a cram a bavarian creme donut into my mouth in two rapid bites, while still on the phone with Dana...when a gorgeous guy in a leather bomber jacket (which are so in right now) checks me out and smiles... except I couldn't smile back because my mouth was stuff with bavarian creme. Good job Jenn, nicely done. That my friends, in a nutshell, IS my life, and my monday.

Motivated to find a J-O-B, created a little schedule, went to four interviews, and prayed that my day wouldn't end  in  another donut on a street corner. It didn't, I got sick instead and went to bed early.

Sick alllllllllllllll day and finally rolled out of bed to go to an interview at an organic wine bar. The interview went really well! Cross your fingers! I'm currently taking it easy and getting better so I can properly job hunt tomorrow and blog about it of course.

So there's my week, I promise to blog more regularly and have more interesting stories.
